1896helmet.jpg

1896's FIRE HELMET --These helmets were made out of leather and wire, even the eagle that holds the shield was sewn from leather. The combs on top of the helmet gave it strength. Supposedly, the more combs the stronger, and the wide brim kept water from running down their neck. It was a tradition to paint the fire company date on the back brim.

BADGE OF VALOR -- The badge was given to a fireman who saved someone's life while wearing the Vajen Bader Smoke protector. His name would have been engraved at the top.
