The ARFM's
Curator
"Someone You Should
Know"
As a kid, David Lewis wanted to be a
fireman. The fact that he had numerous
medical problems preventing the
fulfillment of this ambition never entered
his mind nor dampened his dream. Countless
firefighters fanned this childhood dream
into a full-fledged obsession and he
progressed from a kid who played with fire
truck toys, to a collector, researcher,
and fire service historian. Today, with a
master's degree in museum studies, David
is the Curator of the Aurora Regional Fire
Museum.
An article was written about David in
"Firehouse Magazine" in December of 1983.
Shortly thereafter, the domino effect of
publicity occurred. A local newspaper
wrote a story about him, then the Chicago
Tribune picked-up on that article and
published their own story, followed by the
Chicago Sun-Times. Even a television news
segment by the popular anchor/host Harry
Porterfield with an on camera interview
for the program called "Someone You Should
Know" aired in 1984.
Now twenty-years later, Harry
Porterfield continues to think David Lewis
is "Someone You Should Know" and he
re-interviewed David yesterday, at the
Aurora Regional Fire Museum.
The segment is aired on Tuesday,
September 7th, on the 5pm broadcast of WLS
Chicago - Channel 7 (ABC) News
For those ARFM members and friends
outside the Chicago viewing area, you may
